Postcards Collection

The ‘Postcards’ collection was commissioned by Monkwell in the spirit of the 1930’s and 1950’s when fine artists were employed to give a contemporary edge to graphic and textile arts. The designer, Emma Jeffryes, is both an artist and a textile designer who works in the tradition of the St Ives School of artists whose imagery in the 1930’s was interpreted into printed and woven fabric designs. Emma spends much of her time painting in St Ives and other sea side resorts and it was one of her paintings that inspired the theme of the collection - ‘day trips’, the great British tradition as immortalised in the London Transport posters of the 1930’s.
